Hey, so…

…”Will you tag (something that is not a common phobia or trauma trigger)?” is always an appropriate request.  Even if you’re asking “will you tag for the letter ‘e’,” you’re not crossing boundaries unless the person you’ve asking has already said, clearly, that they will not tag for a thing.

However, “no,” is an equally appropriate reply.  It’s nice to have reasons (no I will not tag frogs because I post too many frogs and I forget, meaning that the tag will not protect you; no, I will not tag Disney princesses because it says “Disney princesses” in my blog description and you knew this was a dead dove before you took a bite), but they are absolutely not required.

“Will you tag for birds of prey?”  “No.  Please unfollow me if you require that tag.”  is a perfectly polite exchange.

It amazes me when people forget this is a common courtesy. Also, if you like following someone in particular and they post things that trigger you, you can sometimes find ways to creatively block things they don’t tag for and continue to enjoy their other posts.

For example, Seanan posts a lot of frogs. Pics and vids of frogs squick me, and are related to some personal triggers, so if I’m already having a bad mental health moment seeing those can make it much worse. I love everything else she posts about and would be sad if I had to unfollow her just for the frogs. So instead, I have the name of the blog she usually reblogs frogs from as a blacklisted tag on xkit, and that knocks my chances of seeing frogs on her blog down to like, 5%. Doing that keeps my dash a safe space for me to relax and have fun, without asking her to second guess posting the things she relaxes and has fun with.

Sometimes you need to unfollow people, for the sake of your health in internet usage. And sometimes there’s workarounds you can put in place yourself to tailor what you see of someone else’s blog. But putting all the work of protecting yourself on the internet into someone else’s hands is unfair, to them and to you.

can anyone help me pay for my tag renewal? I’d normally try to doordash for something like this but I just went thru a breakup with a doordash driver and I KNOW I’d run into him. I’m gonna pick up extra shifts at my main job but I’m nervous about getting a ticket before I can afford to pay it. plus I owe my ex $100 still for a loan I didn’t ask for. I only have $40 for the next two weeks and because I don’t wanna run into him I anticipate not being able to make much more than that until then. my tag renewal is $69.05

man i literally went from “ummmm sorry sweaty but theres only she and he pronouns, neopronouns and nonbinaryness are for trans//trenders :))))” to “i traded my gender for magic beans and a $2 hotdog”

I don’t think you can fully understand transmisogyny without understanding how it’s weaponized against cis Black women.

When you find a transmisogynist you’ve found a racist who will use their ideals of the “normative female body” to demean and denigrate Black women. For years it was a popular right wing rumor/conspiracy/dick move to refer to Michelle Obama as a “tranny” and more recently sports organizations have repeatedly excluded cis Black women for not having “normative” hormone levels. Transmisogyny and antiblackness go hand in hand.

i’m not saying the spongebob musical was instrumental in me coming out as nonbinary but i am saying i spent a lot of days in college listening to (not a) simple sponge on loop and internally feeling like this

Funny how a mass arrest goes completely under the radar when it’s mostly teens, right?

To be clear there was no explosive; ā€œhill bombā€ is just what the event is called.

Holy SHIT. I just finished reading a related article, and y’all, this was so corrupt OTHER SFPD COPS ARE STANDING WITH THE KIDS.

Like basically their take is ā€œyeah, some kids were being unruly. Y’all handled it ENTIRELY the wrong way and there is zero reason this should have happened.ā€ There was an official meeting (I think like a monthly town hall kind of thing? I forgot to take note when I read it) and the cop who’s in charge of internal conduct investigation was there and he. Was. PISSED. And inviting parents and teens involved to give their testimony on the specifics of the rights violations they experienced so he could follow up and make full reports.

Like you KNOW shit’s fucked when even other police are looking at the police chief and saying ā€œwhat the fuck is wrong with you?ā€

hi, i actually live in the bay, and have friends and comrades who were affected by this, i have no fucking idea where you got the notion that other police officers are going against their coworkers and city officials when SFPD !and they mayors office has made it plenty clear they see nothing wrong with what they did

ā€œi forgot what officer was doing the internal investigation bur he was PISSSEDā€ fuck out of here youre really gonna believe their bullshit??? are you fucking stupid?? no, hes frustrated the department has to do ANOTHER PR stunt because this is routine behavior for SFPD

do not spread bullshit unsourced cop propaganda about my community because you read one single article. get the fuck out of here

the amount of posts from tumblr staff members scolding users for not wanting to give them money is truly incredible. every single complaint about the website is met with ā€œwell maybe if you gave us enough money šŸ’…ā€ truly undefeatable business strategy. when i got banned from mass reporting and their email support blocked me an actual post i saw from a real staff member on here in response was that we ā€œaren’t giving them enough moneyā€ to afford moderation that isn’t completely automated. not to mention this kind of shit from official blogs:

it’s truly fucking astonishing. did they think they just got lucky that Yahoo sold tumblr for $1 billion less than they bought it for? do they think if they yell at us enough we’ll feel like we owe something to an unprofitable business model? if you can’t figure something out that is literally not my problem. sorry interest rates aren’t 0% anymore and you can’t run businesses at a complete loss forever now. sell the platform to the next schmuck dumb enough to buy it or shut it down. we will literally just find somewhere else to post.

It’s working guys you’re making tumblr $30+ million dollars it’s really happening!

i see we’ve reached the ā€œit’s cheaper than your daily starbucksā€ stage argument for premium memberships

“please buy crabs so that Tumblr doesn’t have to implement changes we hate to become profitable” right, let me explain something about capitalism.

Tumblr didn’t change course because they need the cash and are down on their luck. they did it because corporations want growth.

and that desire for growth is gonna be the same whether they have negative infinity money or positive infinity money. a corporation seeks money and growth.

if Tumblr suddenly became profitable after announcing these changes, it’s not even that it would send the wrong message, although it would.

it’s that Tumblr wouldn’t be taking care of us better if only it weren’t for the cruel realities of the world. it’s a subsidiary of a corporation. it doesn’t care.

it’s still going to keep the changes that it thinks are profitable, and ignore changes it thinks won’t be. Tumblr is not our friend, it is a website we use, and it wants to profit from us regardless of if that’s in our best interest and regardless of if it has “enough” money. that is the relationship. don’t get it twisted.

“yeah but Tumblr needs the money 🥺”

what part of corporations aren’t our friends isn’t fucking clicking
